Our Hardwood

Durable floors for homes that actually get used.

Dogs, kids, and 20 years of daily traffic. That's what most of our customers are planning for. We carry species, finishes, and wear layers that hold up to all of it.

Popular Species

The four species we install the most.

Each species has a different grain pattern, hardness, and color range. The right one depends on your traffic, your style, and how much character you want in the floor.

White oak hardwood flooring, Shaw Reflections collection

White Oak

The most popular hardwood we install. Tight grain, neutral color range, and takes stain well. Works with almost any design direction, from modern to traditional.

Hickory hardwood floors with natural grain variation

Hickory

One of the hardest domestic species available. Heavy grain variation and natural color movement. A strong pick for high-traffic homes that want character in the floor.

Maple hardwood flooring by Johnson

Maple

Clean, subtle grain with a lighter natural tone. Takes well to contemporary spaces and lighter stain colors. Harder than oak, smoother underfoot.

Walnut hardwood flooring with rich dark tones

Walnut

Rich, dark tones with a softer feel. The premium choice for dining rooms, master bedrooms, and spaces where the floor is meant to make a statement.

Texture & Finish

Three finishes. Each one hides wear differently.

The finish affects how your floor looks, feels, and shows scratches over time. This is one of the first things we'll walk through with you.

Wire brushed hardwood floor texture

Wire Brushed

Textured surface that hides scratches and daily wear better than any other finish. The go-to for families with pets and kids.

Hand scraped hardwood floors with rustic texture

Hand Scraped

Distressed by hand for a rustic, lived-in look from day one. Scratches and dents blend into the texture instead of standing out.

Smooth finish hardwood flooring

Smooth

Clean, polished surface with a modern feel. Shows scratches more easily, which is best for lower-traffic rooms or homes without large pets.

Want the option to refinish? Ask about wear layer.

If you want the ability to sand and refinish your hardwood down the road, you need a product with a 4mm wear layer. Not every product has it. We carry options that do, and we'll make sure you know which ones before you commit.

Common Questions

Questions about hardwood?

The things homeowners ask us every week, answered straight and without hedging. If something isn't here, just call us at 737-260-7177.

01 Can hardwood be installed over concrete? +
Absolutely. We install hardwood over concrete every day of the week. Most of our products glue down directly to a leveled slab with no sheathing needed. Some solid hardwood options require OSB sheathing first (about $1.10/sqft). Central Texas clay soil means most slabs need leveling work, and that's the single biggest cost variable on hardwood projects.
02 Is hardwood realistic with kids and pets? +
A hardwood floor is more equivalent to taking care of nice furniture. If the kids ride bikes and roller skate in the house, hardwood is probably not the best option. But is it an absolute no? Absolutely not. Several members of our own family have hardwood throughout the main living areas of their homes, with kids and pets in the mix. The right species and finish make a big difference. Wire brush on white oak or hickory hides daily wear better than a smooth finish on a softer wood.
03 What's included in the per-sqft price? +
Every per-sqft rate on this page is a true installed price. Material, adhesive, labor, and tax are all included. Demo, leveling, baseboards, and transitions vary by project and show as separate line items on your written estimate before we start. Nothing is buried. You'll see every dollar accounted for, and we lock your material pricing at deposit, even if supplier costs or tariffs change before your install date.
04 How do I choose the right species? +
It depends on your traffic, your style, and how much grain variation you want. White oak is our most popular, with a neutral, tight grain that works with everything. Hickory is the hardest domestic option and hides wear well. Maple is cleaner and more contemporary. Walnut is the premium pick with rich dark tones. We'll walk through samples in your home so you can see them in your actual lighting.
05 What's a wear layer and why does it matter? +
The wear layer is the thickness of real wood on the surface of the plank. If you want the ability to sand and refinish your floor down the road, you need at least a 4mm wear layer. Not every product has it. We'll make sure you know which ones can be refinished and which ones can't before you make a decision.
06 How long does installation take? +
Most projects run 3 to 5 days, covering demo, leveling, installation, and trim. Larger jobs or stairs take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline during your consultation, not the best-case fantasy number.
07 What about humidity and expansion in Texas? +
Keep your home between 65 and 80 degrees, otherwise there will be expansion and contraction. Texas humidity swings are real, and they're one of the reasons certain hardwood constructions are more popular here. Proper acclimation before installation is non-negotiable regardless of which product you choose.
08 Does hardwood help resale value? +
Hardwood consistently ranks as the highest-ROI flooring option. But get it because it fits how you live. The value increase is a welcome bonus, not the reason.
